What to make now…..

Today I have all day to spend in my sewing room, have loads of fabric, and brain can’t decide.  I guess I will pull out some fabric and see what I come up with.  I have an idea now it is just seeing how I can get it into fabric.  Time will only tell.

How many of you have worked with the stack and wack quilts?  I do believe that will be one I may try.  I have been sitting here staring out the window and thought about that and a southwest color inspired quilt.  I do believe it will be the Southwest color quilt to start today.  I will use the fabric from our vacation.  Thank you for letting me talk it thru.

Have a wonderful day and try to be creative everyday.

Monday after Easter

What a wonder Easter we had.  I hope everyone else had a wonderful Sunday.  Our day started out about 6 am finishing up things that needed to be ready.  Easter Bunny hid eggs for our 2 yr. old Granddaughter.  It was so wonderful watching her trying to find all the eggs and the pure excitement when she found one.  She carried around a blue one all morning until her had turned as blue as the egg.  She was so up set when she dropped an egg and it cracked until we all assured her we loved the cracked eggs too.  We danced the chicken dance with her, ate a wonderful meal, enjoyed an afternoon full of laughing with our kids and the older grand kids.  We laughed till we cried.  It was a wonderful day.

This morning has me thinking of what I want to create next.  I have a few ideas rolling around in my brain and I will be putting them on paper.  The next big challenge is how to get them into a quilt or wall hanging.  My problem is that I think too literal.  It is hard to think in the abstract.  I need to do some more thinking and experimenting.  How do you take that idea you have and put it into a finished project?  What advice to you give to someone who is stuck in the literal thinking mode?    Help please.  Thank you in advance,  I appreciate all advice.

Happy Easter

I am making art portfolio bags for a friend of mine to take to an art retreat in June.  She said she has had lots of request for the ones I made her. So Easter dinner is ready to heat and serve tomorrow and I am spending the day sewing.

Finished my Easter Fold’n Stitch Leaf Topper and putting my whimsical Easter Chicken in the center.  It plays the Chicken Dance when someone walks by.  It will be my center piece.  I also finished the top for my mini Primitive Twisted Square.  IMG_20170414_101130IMG_20170414_100815888_HDRBoth of these were so much fun to make once I got the knack of the quilt top.  I think I will make a lap quilt like this.

Now I am going to get my polymer clay out and make some wild buttons for the portfolio bags.  So much fun for the afternoon.  Enjoy your Easter.

Spring has sprung

Been out working in the yard yesterday.  I even got the grand daughter out helping.  We are taking an area that had a rock path that went out of control.  We were pirates digging for treasures.

Yes even  a hard working Pirate needs a cold Sonic from time to time.  We moved from here to the back fence where the Day Lilies have taken over the area.  We dug up a 2 foot square area then had to make some pies.

After a hard afternoon in the yard, and a bubble bath, we did get a few Easter Eggs dyed.  IMG_20170411_181448125.jpg

Once Pirate Destiny went to sleep I did some needle turn applique.  I have forgotten how much I enjoyed this process.   I have gotten about 1/2 the leaves for my Fold’n stitch leaf topper finished.  I think on the veins of the leaves I will add a little bling.  So far here are what the leaves look like.IMG_20170412_085832298.jpgNext time you see this it will be completed.  Keep smiling and find something fun to do today and everyday.  Makes you happy.

In Awe

Last night I went to quilt guild and was so in awe of our speaker, Irene Bartos, from Iowa.  The wall hangings and quilts she showed and talked about were wonderful.  She did some raw edge applique.  The subject of her pieces looked almost 3D.  Here are a few of the pictures I took last night. IMG_20170411_075720IMG_20170411_075800They blurred when I cropped them, but I hope you get the jest of the photos.  I also just had to get these patterns.

Wouldn’t this Color Me Crazy be a great scrappy quilt.  I can’t wait to try it.  This morning I will be working on my Illusion quilt then this afternoon Destiny(granddaughter will look thru fabric to get it ready for this color me crazy quilt.  She enjoys playing in fabric almost as much as her grandmother.  Have a great day and do something fun.

Beautiful Sunday.

Sitting at my sewing table, I have several things in the head to make.  I need to make a list and notes to get things straight and decide on what to do next.  How do you handle all those ideas in you have and keep working on one thing to be able to accomplish something?

I think today I will work on some needle turn applique out in the sun.  It is a beautiful day outside and I want to soak up the sun.  Wonder if I could take my machine out on the patio, put it on the table out there and sit in the sunshine and sew.  I think Hubby would call the men with the straight jacket for me.  HAHAHA I will be content to sit by my window.

This is the project I am making this morning (the needle turn applique).IMG_20170409_084854691

Enjoy your day.

I”mmmmmmmmm Back

Well it is done and done.  Both dresses made and in the hands of the Granddaughters.  I feel so much relief.  IMG_20170402_193415609IMG_20170406_075437IMG_20170402_202031475The girls designed their own dresses and I was worried.  Got the hem fixed on Emily’s. Now to finish a few projects then I will be ready to start some quilts.  It has been such a short week.

Alicia is making these cute little remedy bags. They are filled with rice, lavender (for sleep aide), mint and eucalyptus (for colds).  Just heat a few min not to get too hot just to heat up the rice and put in bed with the child.  Helps stuffy noses, not sleeping and so on.  These are so cute.17757476_759815300853216_241859129234868596_n

Have a great day and enjoy your day.

Each of us has our unique gift to the world. My friend(such a nice word) Emily’s is quilting. This weekend the place in Vancouver, Washington where we go for retreats was hosting an open house. Nancy’s SewNGo was making some changes including the name, now “The Countryside Quilters” and wanted to show off the new classroom as well as give newcomers a view of the wonderful facility without charge. Since I cannot as yet drive that far on my own, our friend Patti offered a ride if I could meet her on the other side of the highway as she had a couple other quilting friends going along with her as well. I could do the 10 minute drive easy and Patti did the rest with ease. I was more than delighted to be included. (Another nice word)

Sweet Sunday

Hope your weekend is the best so far.  I am so happy.  Woke up refreshed, no coughing, (meds working), Prom dresses done, just need to cut the netting to the length they want.  I will take pictures when they try them on tonight.  They will be here for the “Two Little Giraffe Quilts, but have been distracted a little.  Spring is looking beautiful here in the Mid West. We mowed the yard last night in anticipation of the rain on the way.  As I try and sew I am distracted by the little squirrels playing outside.  I need to go out and stand up the birdbath that got blown over.  Hostas starting to come up and my Redbud Tree is blooming.  The original Red Bud tree came down during an ice storm about 8 yrs ago and 2 yrs ago one started coming up in its place so we have let it go.  IMG_20170402_112434206_HDRNow for a look outside my window. IMG_20170402_112446511Happy Weekend.

Quick note

This is just a quick note to say Daughter in Law’s dress finished.  IMG_20170331_175151305.jpgStill working on Prom Dresses.  If I sew all evening and tomorrow I cottonshould have them finished by Sunday so they can have them a week before the Prom.  Those pictures will come next week.

I did take time to go to JoAnns yesterday and spent too much and got lots of stuff.  Fat quarters 75 cents  (there are 20 les s now),  several spools of thread, and black (used on the dress above.)  White flannel.  I want to play and I tell myself get these first.  So back to sewing so I can play sooner.   Have a wonderful day.
