Organization Day Today?

These last few months I have felt like a Hamster running in a wheel. Going, going, and still in the same place. The last few weeks I have been doing some soul searching on why it is that I am doing so much in a day and not getting anything accomplished. I decided that I need to get back into my organized days. I have taken on the roll of President of our quilt guild and with that and then the quilt show and the drama had my mind spinning. Now things are started leveling out.

We have our final Craft Fair the 18th of November and then getting ready for Christmas. With that said I am working on Gnomes and Brittle candy.

Today will be a day of no Gnomes because I need to clean my sewing room. It is an obstacle course and it needs to be organized and purged some of the stuff. Or atleast my 7yr old granddaughter tells me.

Starting to decorate for the fall season and a little for Halloween. I love sitting outside and hand out candy to the trick or treaters. By 9pm I just leave the candy outside for the older kids. I hope it will be gone by morning. We don’t need it.

I love seeing the fall colors and the trees are beautiful.

Nothing beats God’s work.

Have a great day and enjoy it.

A Week In Process

In the last few weeks we have been making gnomes, bowl cozies, and dolls for craft fairs. Hubby has been down stairs cutting Military Plaques out. Then our new “Hobby” Target Shooting. We joke that we see each other only for meals, but it got close to being like that, so we decided to do this together. It is a lot of fun, but gets a little expensive for ammo. We go out 1 or 2 times a week so that is good.

Today I will work on Gnomes a little more then start on a scrap quilt. This will be interesting to see how it turns out. I have a large basket full of scraps and will just start sewing and see where it goes. Hahaha maybe in the trash. Oh well.

Meet the new members to the Gnome Family.

KC Chief’s Gnome

Quick Trip(Convenience store here) Mascot

Chef Gnome, Santa and Ms. Clause, and Gerome Gnome.

I have been in the process of getting ready for the Craft Fair this weekend, working on a quilt for a lady, and trying to get one done for the September Quilt Show. Today I woke up before the alarm clock, and am still tired.

I did delilver the quilt yesterday and now I am planning on sandwiching one for quilting for the show.

This optical illusion has made me so frustrated and happy at the same time. I made this from a picture, but at every corner I was ripping something out and re doing it. You see a goof up? I think the name for this one is Illusion Quilt gone wild, Can you find the mistake? Oh well, We will see when the final quilt is done. I hope I found all errors.

Today I will finish up the last of the items for the craft fair and after more coffee I will start cleaning the garage. Everything gets thrown out there until I get it straightened up again.

My next project will be a pet portrait of our Little Lady, Ms.Pumpkin.

She is my sewing buddy, and all around Helper. She has taught herself to know when Hubby’s sugar levels are off and alerts us. And is very voiceterous about itl

Now to get to work.

Good morning

I hope this weekend is going to be sunny so I can work in the yard some. It seems like life is getting pretty crazy. The main thing I learned yesterday is that at 72 my mind says “Yes you can do this…72 is just a number.” Don’t listen to that mind…72 is an older number”. The body doesn’t do as much as that mind tells you. That mind lies. I have a quilt to finish for someone, Jalapeno Peacon Brittle to make, and clean house, and got groceries. I was so tired we ordered Pizza for dinner and then was in bed by 8:45 and asleep by 9.

Today is sew for a while (finish the quilt top) and then sandwich 2 quilts, make brittle, and clean the garage. After 4pm what didn’t get done won’t get done.

The quilt I am making is for an Artist friend. We went to Missouri Star Quilts (ony 1 1/2 hours away) and she picked out the fabric. 4 Charm Packs, sashing material, and backing. She wants to send pictures to someone to show the process. So here we go…

This is what we started with and it looked kinda blah. She said it needed something so this is what I suggested and she agreed. This is going to be the top.

This will be a full size. The quilting will be a large wandering design so it does nothing to distract from the quilt colors. I will be finishing up the top.

You have a great day.

Happy 4th of July 250 yrs. old

I am enjoying today with the kids and grands and their partners for the afternoon. We have been getting together about once a month. I don’t buy fireworks, but if the kids do go for it. The neighborhood has been celebrating for a month already so tonight ought to be festive.

The activities have been a little more over the top for the 4th, 250 yrs old, and FIFA. Everywhere you look people are smiling and friendly. It seems everyone is on their “party manners” for company.

No matter what you are doing today be safe and have fun

A New Sewest to the group.

My granddaughter, Destiny who is 11 going on 21 is quilting now. She joined our Quilt Guild and has had 2 entries in our quilt show. I started letting her play with fabric scraps and buttons as a toddler. Our other Granddaughters do not like to sew. So I am having lots of fun.

Then as she got older she learned to use my machine by sitting on my lap and learned to guiding the fabric sewing straight lines. She made her first quilt by taking scraps from a previous quilt I made and sat put the pieces together.

I wish I had been retired when the older grands were growing up to be able to have the time like now, but that isn’t so. Destiny has always been more grown up than her years as she wasn’t babied her (other grandparents tend to treat her like a toddler still). She has helped me bake, sew, and made sure grandpa took his sugar levels.

Her OCD has helped her sewing quite a bit. She can be as precise as she wants to and has helped her step out of her comfort zone in a safe place.

This quilt is one she made for her first quilt show quilt.

This is her “I want to an Astrophysicist” stage. I hasn’t changed her mind on that yet. Now she is learning to make Pinwheels so as she gets this going I will post those. As she grew up she made doll clothes helped make her dresses and even made a few skirts on her own.

So in a nutshell Destiny is our newest member of One Creative Family.

Our other Grands are all so talented (they didn’t get their talents from me).

Do something fun today.

“Frogging”

I have started trying to relearn crocheting. This started when I misread the pattern and it said to double crochet in each double crochet increasing by 10. Easy next row (20) for 5 rows. I had a beautiful ruffly doily. Each row should of had 10, 20, 30 stitches until row 5. As I was taking things out and started over my daughter aske,”Are you frogging it?” She said when you are ripping something out you are “Frogging It” . When taking stitches out you are “RIBBITING IT Out” Between learning to Crochet and my quilting and garmet sewing I have mastered the “Frogging” process.

Next today I am going to plant some seeds that my granddaughter gave me. We are expecting rain tonight so this will be the perfect time.

This week starts the begining Pean Brittle making for the craft fairs. I need to make 30lbs of it. it takes 45 minutes per batch so I make about 4 lbs aday. Alicia, (my daughter) is making as much peanut brittle.

Have a wonderful day.

Back On Track

Well I am back on track to be getting myself together and start back here again. I have missed reading everyone’s posts, and getting back into the sewing room. Being in my 70’s isn’t quite what I thought it would be like even 10 yrs ago. I have learned how very blessed and lucky we are. This last year Hubby has been in and out of the hospital several times, his tremors are worse and he is forgetting things more. After many tests, Dr visits, and a few Hospital stays we learned this….he has Parkinson’s, at some point he has had a stroke without any outward signs and no lasting affects. The Parkinson’s is the cause of some of the forgetfullnes, part old age, and gthe big thing anytime he gets any type of infection he becomes confused, and almost like a zombie. Very Blank. On the up side, at the first signs of an infection the Dr is seen for antibodics, and if he chooses not to do something he looks at us and points to his head and says he can’t because of his Parkinson’s. He is getting out more and doing things around here and has so many more good days. This is why we are so Blessed from all of our friends he is so much better than a few of them. We still have him and his sense of humor daily.

Now I am back in my sewing room more and we’re gearing up for a few Craft sales I am making Peanut and Pecan brittle and getting some embroidery (on my machine) done and sewing.

I have started learning to do Pet Portraits and they aren’t too bad, got lots more practice in my future.

Jethro our son’s Mastif.

Now working an illusion quilt.. Couldn’t find a pattern so graph paper here I came and it isn’t too bad.

Fould a few mistakes that needed to be fixed and then borders.

Life is good today, I wish everyone a Beautiful day.

It is cold out there

This morning I woke up to a 2 degrees with a wind chill of -20 I will be making working on a quilt today and watching the cars try to get up the hill in front of our house. The 2+ inches of snow has been packed down and then turned to ice is making the street out my window an ice rink. If they can get a running start, not slow down, and watch for cars parked on the street they may make it. Wishing anyone who has to get out on the roads safe travels.

We’ve had snow days yesterday and today, so I am not sure how long Destiny will last without saying “I’m bored” We will see.

Well Mary is working on cups and things for sales. She made me this cup from a picture taken 2 yrs ago while we were in Texas at Thanksgiving.

I have seen him stand like this so many times. Nice reminder.

What is everyone working on these days? I am starting a paper pieced quilt today. Starting with trying to pick out some bright colors. Wish me luck. Have a wonderful day

Super Bowl Weekend

Hello we are finally back after a while of craziness. My hopes and prayers are that 2025 will be a little more calmer. I had a foot surgery and then had to have it redone because the first Dr. messed it up and I ended up with bones not attached to the foot. Just hanging around. We never stopped creating and have picked up a few new member. Granddaughter Cc is baking cup cakes and yummy looking things.

The 2nd new member is Granddaughter Destiny. She made her first full quilt and entered it into the quilt show. She is making friendship braclets now and wanting to be one of the adults. She is 10 going on 20.

While I was recooping from foot surgery I took a Pet Portrait class from Rochelle Rice of the Inappropriate Quilters Blog cast. It was amazing I loved it. Here are my attempts at it.

We will have more later to share. Have a fantastic day and if you are a Football fan then Enjoy. I am a fan of sewing while football is on. Go Chiefs! go Eagles?

A Little on the Chilly Side

It has been cold here in Missouri for a few days, but today is -7 with a windchill of -26. While I sew I like to look out the window, but it is a little chilly in here. We got new windows a few years ago, but I have realized that when it is hit a place on the thermometer cold is just cold. I wear a sweater all day and am ok. Maybe today I will Close the curtains in here and keep the warm in and not be able to see outside. Maybe I will just take breaks and move around.

As I have been reading your blogs I am getting ideas for Christmas in 2024. I have 8 females to do for so Thank You for your ideas. 1. Spa bags (From My Carolina Home) then a take off of that a Sewing bag, Cooking bags. and so on.

Today when not sewing we are working on a jigsaw puzzle. What do you do when the weather is not the best. My moto is “It could be worse.”

A Little Too Cold

We are having too cold of a cold spell. It is 15 degrees today with a windchill of -2. Tomorrow the temp is gonna be in the negative numbers for the next 6 days. I am at the sewing machine and looking out the window and you can see the branches on trees just bouncing with the wind. Tomorrow it is going to be -1 with a windchill of -25. Time to make something.

Last post I showed you pictures of the Diamond Log Cabin miniature quilt so here is the progress I am making.

Well fabric is calling my name and so I will leave you with some photos from the last 2 days.
