One Creative Family

As promised, here is the pattern.  Not sure where I got it, but here goes.  Started with 6   5inch squares of fabric, and 1 square of batting( you can use flannel, or denim)

This is the fabric I chose.

I decided to use an orange for the bottom of the coaster and the white is not going to be seen.  Place the Orange on the Top face down, batting on top, and then the orange on top.       The opposite of the picture below.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fold the other 4 fabrics in half, and press.  Now place each folded fabric on top of the orange and laying it like you would a closed box top.

Make sure the raw edges are on the outside edge of the square.  Sew around the edges.  I sewed it in black so you can see the stitching..

Trim the corners and now you are ready to turn it right side out.  Reach into the center opening and turn…I use a skewer to poke into the corners to straighten it out.  You are ready to enjoy it now. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I have been using a lot of scrap fabric and batting for these projects  Doesn’t take much time at all.  I hope this makes sense.  If not let me know.

I made a variation of the square coaster, making it round. 

Here is a sample of the coasters I am making.  Now I know wine doesn’t sweat, but these are so cute.  A set of 4 makes a wonderful gift.  You can use your scrap fabric.  That is how I am using up my scraps.  I will see about putting out a pattern for this.

Frozen quilt is finished and ready for delivery.  Olaf turned out pretty good.  Added a little pocket at the bottom for hidden treasures.

Well, here we are in week 2 of August.  The weather has been hot and miserable with a few days hidden in that are cool and nice.  I hope everyone has stayed as cool as possible and the creative juices flow.

This week’s challenge is COASTERS.  Big mug rug coasters, square coasters, round coasters, fabric coasters, crochet coasters, knitted coasters, tiled coasters.  Surprise us.  What media do you like to use?  I am so excited to let the mind go crazy.  Give it a try and share with us.

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.  Today is a cloudy day with light showers here and there.  Nice in cool today.

I will post Alicia’s jean upcycled project in a little later today. A few more pins and tucks.  We all know how that goes.

I started a peek a boo quilt for a little girl who has cancer, then found out she loves Olaf from Frozen  This is what I have done so far, and trying where to go from here.  Any suggestions.  I want to add only about 5-8 inches to the top and bottom and about 4-5 inches on the sides.  I am sitting here looking at to see what it is telling me to do.

Not sure if anyone has heard, probably everyone has), Michaels Craft stores have bought the name and rights to Hancock Fabric Stores. NOT Hancock of Paducah, Ky  I know Michael’s sale fabric on line, but maybe they will start having some in the stores.

I have to apologize for not posting anything yesterday. It was a busy day then when it was quiet, I had my little helper. I don’t think many people can read 18 month old’s writings. I know I am not that smart. For this reason I waited until today. Alicia showed me a picture of the skirt she is making and it is so cute. I can’t wait for you to see it. I will be going to sewing club in about an hour and know when I come home I will have sooooo many ideas running thru my brain. These ladies are so talented. Enjoy your day.

I hope all is going great on the challenge…upcycling and old item.  I chose an old shirt of my husband, and my daughter chose an old pair of jeans.  I think she is making a skirt.  I am making aprons.  I love it. This is the before picture, and then the after pictures.  To be honest I made these a couple months ago.  I let time get away from me and Gary is running out of shirts.  Thrift stores here I come.
