Sweet Saturday

I am trying to work on an applique pattern I got from Bryce Canyon a few weeks ago.  It is not coming out to my liking, but we will see how it turns out.  I will be working on it tomorrow and hopefully it will come together.  I look at all my fabric and then I decide on a quilt to work on and guess what???????? I don’t like the fabric I have and want to get different colors.  Kind of stupid.  I guess it is a good thing I don’t own a quilt shop.  I would go broke.

Gift Card Holder

As promised here are the directions for making your own Gift Card Holder.

1.) Cut 3 pieces of fabric 6  1/2 inches by 4  1/2 inches                                                                            Cut 3  pieces of Peltex 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 inches

2.)Fold fabric in half length wise, right sides together.  Place a Peltex on top of the outside of folded fabric and stitch  1/4inch seam. img_20161014_162641312

3.) Turn right side out and stack the 3 pieces together. I use 2 different fabrics just for fun.  I have also used Plastic Canvas in the place of Peltex. Put Grommets or button holes in the top of the card holder. This will be used to pull the ribbon through.img_20161014_163727684

4.) Using embroidery thread stitch all 3 pieces together on each side and bottom.

5.) Pull the ribbon through the holes and then place your gift cards in each opening on the top. This pushes the ribbon down into the holder and to get the gift card out, pull the ribbons.

Enjoy.

Little gift card holders

This pattern was given at a sewing club, I made one to try and I will be making more for giving Gift cards at Christmas.  I will post tomorrow the pattern in case anyone wants to make it for themselves.

Just pull the ribbon and the gift cards pop right up.  It holds 2 cards.  Takes no time at all to make.

I am still trying to organize this sewing room.  How did I ever get so much stuff…..but I can’t get rid of any of it.  I may need it.  Where there is a will there is a way.  Truth be know it is looking better.  Well back to work so I can write up the pattern for these cute gift card holders.

Till tomorrow.

When will I be done?!

Monday got a new sewing machine.  The table I had been using for the machine was 2 legal size file cabinets with an 8ft x 24in still up and trying to clean things and fine top of it.  With the new machine it is too tall.  Sooooooooo today we went and bought a new industrial sewing table made for it.  Got one file cabinet empty of books and fabric.  Trying to find room for everything else. What do I need to get next?  On the bright side I have been working on the quilting on a Christmas present for my oldest daughter.

New Janome Horizon

As you know we were on a vacation in New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado.  Well before we left we took my 2 yr old Singer into the shop for regular  maintenance.  Now that was about 3 weeks ago.  We went in and there is a part in the bobbin mechanism that is on order and no telling when it will be in.  I guess Singer is having issues with the quality of the product.  So while we were talking to the gentleman we started looking around.  I have had a Janome and didn’t have an ounce of problems for 15 yrs.  We decided right then to get a new Janome as it was on sale.  I am in love with my new machine.  The Singer will be used as a back up.  NOW new fabric and new machine.  Now to get to work.

Wonderful Sunday

Today is a the first day in 2 weeks that I am back in the sewing room to work on some new projects.  The first thing is to organize the room so while I do this take a look at some of the beautiful views of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.

img_2689img_2703img_2698These 3 photos are from the Great Sand Dunes in Southern Colorado.  They are the largest Sand Dunes in North America.  Everything was white as far as you can see.  The sand was fine and felt so good to the toes.  I could have stayed there forever.  Driving along you see Mountains and then this is the view you get.  WOW!

I hope you enjoyed some of the high lights. Tomorrow will be back to business.

Home Again

We made it home from our 4,000 mile, 4 states, 3 time zones, quilt stores in each state, numerous National Parks, and snow and temperatures 14 degrees with a wind chill of -2 on Pikes Peak Mountain.  We had a wonderful time and saw many wonderful sites.  All the National parks now have quilt blocks for each park and ink jet pictures on quilt fabric sets.  Yes, I will be working on a vacation quilt next.  After unpacking and sorting everything I will post about the quilt shops.  They were great.  Glad to be home and able to catch up on what you are doing.

Early morning

This morning we  were up and at the Grand Canyon to see the sunrise.  It was beautiful.  I have seen so many beautiful places we are getting numb.  I bought quilt blocks in the gift shop at the Grand Canyon today.  I was surprised.  Gary said he takes me to see one of the 7 Wonders of the world and I find quilt patterns.  I guess I will be making a quilt of all the National Parks we visit.  I have already started planning it out.  We are seeing some beautiful turquoise and silver jewelry made by the Navajo Indians.    Well all hope all are well.

Day 4

We have been on the road for 4 days and have been through 2 states.  I have already started building my stash. Gary has been teasing that we will need to buy a new suitcase just for my fabrics..I have fallen in love with quilts without corners.  I want to do some as soon as we get back..

Last 2 days.

It has been an exciting and long 2 days.  We left the KC area Saturday night at 11:38 and arrived in Santa Fe, New Mexico about Noon on Sunday.  We have spent 2 days looking around and I have so enjoyed the Churches and the beautiful adobe homes.  I have found 2 fabric stores and they may need to reorder I bought so much.  Gary reminds me this is only day 2 so I better start pacing myself.  While I am out enjoying our traveling Alicia is home working, studying, and crocheting.  I will give a sneek peak at what we have been seeing.

This is the alleyway where one of the quilt shops were located.  The next picture is of the adobe pueblo on the Reservation.

I loved the Chapel of Laretto.  Just breath taking.

Will check in later.
