One Creative Family

I am in the process of making 2 identical 24 inch square baby quilts.  My guild is making these for the “Two Little Giraffe Quilts.” This is for families who have lost a baby.  One stays with the baby and the other stays with the parents for a memory of their baby.  These quilts are pastel flannel with the cuddle fabric on the backs.

I got my JoAnn’s flyer and starting the 30th of March they will have their Fat Quarters on sale for 75 cents each.  Not a bad time to stock up.  Thread buy 1 get 1 free.  I think I will have to get my list going so I can remember what I want to get.

Brain is about shot for the night so I am gonna turn the radio on and curl up with a book before bed.  Have a great weekend all and be safe.

 

Today I decided to go thru my patterns.  I have 3 large kitchen trash bags of patterns I am trying to give away.  I still have that many more if not more that I am keeping.  Now I have  file cabinet to get rid of.  It is good to get some things accomplished.  Tomorrow is more cleaning. I love spring time.  Actually it is raining today and can’t get out doors and the brain was so cluttered I needed to do some cleaning to clear the mind so I can get focused to work on my quilting.  I will be making  a trip to our local Disabled Vets store to donate all this extra stuff that I have been waiting for that day I may need it.

What do you like to do on a rainy day?  Yesterday I finished a book, we need a to make a trip to the Half Price Book Store and stock up on lots of reading.  Just thought I would give you a little laughter.  Also I found some dishes I need to get.

As I read through so many blogs I am reading about how this block was inspired by this journal or that person.  When I think about something that I get inspired by (sunset on the bay) I gather my color pencils, fabrics, graph paper, and there I am stuck.  How do you translate that beautiful sunset into a square block?  I have painted it in oils and have no problem there.  I am a very literal thinker.  How do I train the brain to think in the abstract?  I will be doing some research on this….

On a totally different subject.  I can’t wait to get my new seam ripper.  This is hand turned by a High School Friend.  (Yes, like I told my grand kids, High Schools were invented back then). Last night I could have used this.  It is made from Sindora wood.  Excited.

Busy morning and now I am finished putting a zipper in a pair of shorts and now I need to put a zipper in 2 skirts then I can play for a while. I have so many ideas floating around in my head, do you?  How to handle them?  I am going to try and get them down on paper,  maybe this will help and I will understand what is drawn and written.

My heart and prayers go out to Great Britain.  The news today have been terrible. I pray this BS can be stopped.   It is now being called a terrorist attack.  Home grown.  Just keep them in your prayers.

Today I started the new quilt.  It is a Fons and Porter magazine.  Only have 44 more blocks to make.  Need to multi task.  Ex son in law needs some sewing done, 2 prom dresses and then something fun to do.

I made this one years ago and gave it to my sister and brother in law.  Now I am making one for me.  Well today it is for me.  Who knows about when I am finished.

Was a great day. Spent the day shopping and looking for things for the yard.  This weather is making me want to work in the yard.  Then spent the evening with our Son and Daughter In Law playing pool.  We had a great time.  It has been a long time since we’ve played pool.

Got the results from my Dr and the coughing is caused by a nerve in the back of the throat.  Glad this is all it is.    So all in all a great day.

Started an illusions quilt today.  Got 4 blocks finished.  Good start.  What makes a great day for you?

 

Happy St. Patrick’s Day for all of those of you who enjoy the day. My day will start with an early appointment with the Pulmonary Dr.  Been coughing off and on for 2 yrs and can’t find a reason.  I guess that is good news.  This is one last test and then worse case I cough.  He tells us it is a nuisance cough.  No real reason for it.  The good thing is maybe after today one less Dr. to see.  Then once we are finished there we will be coming home and open the house up.  The weather will be in the high 60’s or low 70’s.  Spring is on the way.  Won’t celebrate till at least Easter.

Think bread is in order also today.  Yesterday was so nice I smoked 3 slabs of ribs.  The other 2 will go into the freezer for another day.  I loveve grilling.  I would cook outdoors every day if I could.  Well with this I will say I am off to say good bye to a Dr.(I hope).

 

 

I have found myself sitting and doing not a lot of anything and today that will change.  I have having an evening coming and I find i haven’t accomplished much.  So today I will be getting more active.  Before retirement I was more active.  I don’t want to become inactive.  So with that this morning after doing some cleaning, the gym, and then an afternoon of sewing.  Got one skirt for prom ready for Emily to try on and now to work on Cc’s.  We are trying to take 2 patterns and turn into one outfit for Emily and 3 patterns into 1 for Cc.  We will make it work.  When they try them on on Sunday I will post pictures of them. Sorry it has been a few days since I have been on line.  Busy catching up.  Last night at my Quilt Guild meeting we had a guest speaker who is from a small town in North Missouri.  As it happens she is from the same town my father in law lived.what is amazing is the town is so small that many years ago the Mayor was a Goat.  The 4 legged kind.  Back to her talk.  She had her mother’s diary where she wrote in it daily.This diary is the inspiration for some quilts.  Here is her site if you want to check it out.  www.prairiemoonquilts.com

Find #2.  A man I went to school with is making hand turned wood seam rippers.  I have ordered one from him and can’t wait for it to get here.   He does these and the cost is only $20 US.  I can’t wait.I am so excited….

Good morning from a cold 28 degrees Snowy day.  This has been a crazy month for weather.  A few days ago it was in the 70’s and now snow today and a chance of sleet, ice, and snow on Sunday night into Monday.  We have a Granddaughter’s 17th birthday party this afternoon and other than that I am not getting out.

Have been working on the prom dresses and they are two pieces each.  Daughter bought 20 inch zippers instead of 9 inch.  Guess the dresses are on hold for today.  Not bad, will be working on craft items.  So many ideas.  So little time.  Stay warm all.
