Happy Fall

The air is so crisp outdoors and as I walked to the car I was ankle deep in leaves that have fallen from our oak tree that is out in the front yard.  I woke this morning to the sound of something hitting my house.  After looking around I found the critter who woke me up out of a sound sleep.  Mr. Squirrel knocking the last of acorns out of the trees.

I have my bread dough rising to start making apple, poppy seed, and sausage  kolaches.  I will be making cinnamon rolls with this also. While waiting for the dough to raise I have an afternoon of baking cookies for the family Thanksgiving Morning.  We have a brunch planned so the kids can go to either work or their families homes for the afternoon and evening.

My days will be filled with music, baking, candy making, and sewing.  I just love this time of the year.

What are your favorite things for the up coming Holidays?  I think for me it is watching everyone enjoying each other, laughing and joking.  This year a 2 yr old running around again will be wonderful.

Another Craft fair almost here

We will be attending a big craft fair on Friday and Saturday.  I keep seeing more and more ideas on this blog and not enough time to make anything other than what I am finishing up.  Hubby is making some beautiful wood work.

I saw some of the cuties Gnomes today on Farm House Quilts https://farmhousequiltsblog.wordpress.com/  I think tomorrow we need to go to the craft store and get a few supplies.  Check them out.  I think you will really enjoy seeing them.

Fall is here

Woke up to a crisp 3 degrees this morning.  Almost all the leaves are off the trees. I love walking in the leaves hearing the crunch as you walk over them.  There is even a different smell in the air.  The humorous side of fall are watching the squirrels running around playing and hiding all the nuts for the winter.  While working in the yard, I have come across pecans stuck in the ground….we don’t have pecan trees.  The only one is my neighbors back yard.

Yesterday brought us a sick granddaughter.  I hope she feels better today and we can go out side.  If not we will be making a picture pillow for mom.  She is only 2 and loves to “color”.  I have some fabric crayons and we will color on some muslin and then I will make a pillow out of if for mom and maybe the other Grandparents for Christmas.

Then a great evening to bake some cookies.  About 5pm if you breathe deeply you may smell some toffee chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven.  Have a wonderfully creative day.

New President of the USA

On Wed we will wake up to a new President.  Whom ever it is I hope it is for the good.  All I can say is I am glad the phone calls will stop.

Now is the time to start planning what to work on next.  I want to make a quilt without corners.  I will get the fabric together tomorrow for this and that will be all for a while the day.  Going to look for some big acorns with Granddaughter.  Friend of mine wants some to paint on.  Take a look at this:  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1107307806027077&set=a.104963146261553.9528.100002436045417&type=3&theater

Looks like fun and we have some good size acorns. So acorn harvesting we will go.

Busy Busy Busy

It has been a busy few days and it was great.  Friday was a day in the sewing room catching up on things I have put off.

It is fall in Missouri and that means LEAVES to rake and mulch. Not only are we cleaning leaves we are scooping up acorns by the shovel full.  I hear the older farmers in Missouri are saying we will have a big snowy winter.  We will see.  Glad we don’t HAVE to get out if we don’t want to.

Saturday was one of my sewing clubs and mini retreats.  It was so much fun.  Got some new Dakota Designs for my embroidery machine.   I am stitching designs on tea towels.  These designs are for the fall and Christmas Days of the week.  They are turning out really cute.

My question is what is an average size for white cotton tea towels?  I bought 3 packages from JoAnn’s and not thinking about different sizes, got home and had 3 packages of 4 towels and each package was a different size.  I guess it is what ever size you like?  I have to go back today and get more all the same size.  I personally like cloth diapers and bought those for 44 years.

The 3 different sizes.   I will be more observant from now on.  New designs.  This is a sample so I know what to do different next time.  I see a skipped stitch so I need to check out fixing that.

Gift card holder remade

If you remember the gift card holders i posted a while back, then here are 2 we remade to sell at the Nov. craft fair.  Also I will be using them for my kids and Grandkids.  I was a little surprised to see how cute they are.  I will be hanging them on the tree and everyone will have to find theirs. IMG_20161102_144052480_HDR.jpg

Happy Halloween

We had a wonderful Sunday with our kids and 4 of the granddaughters.   This morning brings working on some Santa and Snowmen quilts.  This will be lots of fun.  I have  been given a quilt that  a friend of my mother in laws started quilting before she died.  I have only about 6-8 inches left to hand quilt and then put the binding on.  It will go to Gwen’s son.

I have turned my music on and tv off, tired of all the political junk on it and am sewing till I get the youngest Granddaughter.  Tonight Grandpa and I will take her trick or treating to some close friends then hand out candy.  IMG_20161031_101702150.jpg

A good start on organizing

I have started organizing my sewing room and am already getting rid of lots of goodies. It will be good to get up in the morning and start sewing without moving something.  I still have a way to go, but all is well.  img_20161029_194533492I know what I will be working on in an hour or so  Cleaning more  baskets out and see what is tucked away.

Enjoy your weekend all.

Friday Fun

Went shopping today.  Got some Christmas bought, got some totes and a big start on organizing.  Got candy for Halloween, 4 large bags. I hope we get quite a few trick or treaters. I will have the fun of taking our Granddaughter, Destiny, who is 20 months old out to a few houses.

Organizing the sewing room has made me decide that I need to get rid of some of this stuff.  Things that I have had for many years and forgot about.  I will see if our local Boys & Girls Club wants it.  Paints, paper, all kinds of stuff.  I didn’t realize I was such a packrat.
