When I was working I would be spending my Spring Break doing anything I wanted to do after spring cleaning the house. Mother in law and I would take a day going to yarn shops and going to garage sales. Now jump ahead 7 years and I have retired and another granddaughter here is our Spring Break is filled with baking, making fabric Easter Eggs and indoor campouts.
Sorry floors aren’t very comfy for this grandma.
Today we’re making lemon and white chip cookies. Then going to an Estate sale. They are advertising craft items so maybe we will find something I don’t have, and can’t live without.
I finally finished the Sea Glass quilt and have been doing a happy dance.
This was a fun quilt and I have found out my son wants one this size, but more “Rustic” Once I figure this out I will start on one for them for Christmas. This week is catching up on some UFO’s. Last week I did some drawing for an applique I want to make in the future. Growing up we spent LOTS of weekends on my Aunt and Uncle’s Ranch. So I want to try and applique the house for the center of the quilt and then the different cattle brands the family is using now and over the years.
On a very sad note. My heart and prayers are with the people of Ukraine. I don’t like feeling so helpless.
Yesterday was a beautiful day. Sun shinning in the upper 30’s, lots of things accomplished. Met our oldest Granddaughter’s future In Laws, who are sweet people. Who could ask for more? ME…….I have been asking my sewing machine why it doesn’t like the thread I want to use for the quilting on my Sea Glass quilt. As long as I quilt in 1 direction it looks beautiful, but change directions thread breaks. I’ve changed needles, tension, rethreaded, everything I can think of to no help. Just for the fun of it I have tried 3 other threads and it travels beautifully. I feel like Charlie Brown when Lucy keeps pulling the football away as he almost kicks it. I guess today I will head to the quilt shop and get some other thread and get to work, or just use one of the many I have in stock. If you have any ideas, please let me know. I know it is something I am doing wrong. What is your favorite thread and why?
Today is Valentine’s Day so I honestly hope everyone has a very blessed day.
5 degrees is what the day is starting out to be. You know sometimes cold is just cold and the temp doesn’t matter, well that is where I am today. Got the bird feeders filled and fresh fruit out for the Cardinals and Blue Jays and seed on the ground for the ground feeders. Peanut butter balls with dried fruit and birdseed, and nuts for the squirrels and any bird who wants it. By this afternoon we will look like the old Alfred Hitchcock movie “The Birds” The front and back yard were filled with them.
Finally got the Sea Glass quilt top finished and ready to quilt. I will be looking at it for a while to see how to quilt it,
This is on a Queen size bed and after trimming it measures 97×97″. I may not let this one leave the house.
Now to work on Princess Destiny’s dress. Will post a picture when finished.
This morning I was awaken by the phone ringing. My 2nd child was calling and when she gets frustrated she yells. With this said she is yelling in my ear how she got stuck on her way to work because someone decided to turn around in the middle of 4 lanes of traffic and cars are trying to stop and not hit anyone. So I calmly talk to her and let her rant util she is able to get unstuck and be on her way to work. Last night we got some rain then snow on top of that, so very slick. Glad she made it ok, but so much for a sleep in day.
Got butter out of the freezer to thaw out and will get bread dough on to rise in a while and then some hot Chocolate Chip Cookies sound pretty good, doesn’t it?
:Outside my sewing room window at 7:30am. Yesterday I cooked a pot of beans and made some Chili. Will be great left over tonight.
I’ve been working on my Sea Glass Quilt, and it is growing, and growing, and growing. I have never made a Queen size quilt without a pattern and so this has been interesting. I saw this quilt on Facebook and then decided that I knew how to make the Log Cabin and so I got my fabrics, decided on a size and went to town. I started with the longest piece and made that so it went from corner to corner of the bed and worked my way out. I have 1/2 the top finished and realized this thing is going to measure 115″ by 115″. A little big, but my thinking didn’t take into squaring it off so in making the triangle pieces hubby suggested we just cut off some of the pieces to make straight edges. Sounds good till he said just make sure you make it long enough. I hate it when he puts ideas into the brain and then walks away laughing. I came and looked at the drawing I made and then decided my original plan was what I would do. The old Fart love teasing. LOL
Hopefully today I will be getting this finished today and then can figure out how I will be quilting it. This is gonna be a day of listening to KC Chief’s Football game. And I will sew.
Now to change some bad habits and get my days organized. I like organization, sometimes chaotic organization but a good routine to get all I want to do done in a day or at least close to it. Lately it has been just sitting and getting nothing done. I don’t like that. Oh well enough gripping. It is a beautiful sunny 35 degrees today and I will enjoy it, maybe get outside some. Have a great day.
Woke up to snow outside. Getting more snow, so quilting today and working on a puzzle with Hubby. For Christmas our oldest daughter got us a Mystery Puzzle. There is a booklet with a story with hints as to who done it. You put the puzzle together without a picture of what it is to put all the hints together and solve the mystery. This one is Murder By The Pyramids. So much fun.
This morning I woke up to this outside.
This means I am not going anywhere, so I will be working on my quilt. I love the colors and it is going together really well.
I love this. Hoping that a name for this will come to mind as I sew, but we will see as I go. I think next time I would cut the strips 2.5 or even 3 inches wide instead of 2. Makes the blocks bigger. This one finished 8.5 inches. This needs lots of blocks. Oh well.
Can’t wait to get to sewing so have a wonderful day. I sure am.
Finally our own little world is starting to get some kind of normal. The last 2 months has been a roller coaster. Thanksgiving went to Texas to visit family and Hubby got sick. He started a new medication and had a reaction to it. He gets his diabetic medicines from the VA. His Dr prescribed a very low dose and the VA sent it out saying to take a higher dose. We had to wait for 6 months before the VA okayed the drug. He couldn’t eat and after 3 days we decided to head home where his Doctors were, rather than Doctors we never met. Drove home 18 hours and 4 hours later we were in ICU. He had gone into DKA(Diabetic Ketoacidosis). He was unconscious for a week. Then a week of just being weak. Youngest Granddaughter’s other grandparent’s got Covid and we had her for 2 weeks then we had Christmas.
This year I have started Christmas shopping already for 2022. This year is no procrastinating. You never know what tomorrow brings.
Today we went to my favorite fabric shop today and got fabric for a quilt.
Then I got started cutting it up and had to laugh to myself. I am spending money on something to cut up work on for days and longer to just put back together. But oh what fun and cheaper than a Therapist.
Got 1/2 the blocks made and ready for the next group of them.
I saw the quilt on facebook and thought I can do this and so here goes I will post a phot once I get them all together.
This post has taken me 2 1/2 weeks to write this post as life has had so many ups and downs. I am so thankful that even tho life has thrown some low downs and up highs the last 2 months, we are here to talk about it and laugh and cry and hug each other. Don’t take 1 moment for granted.
?I am working on just a few little gifts for the granddaughters. I want to make a few special gifts for the girls. They are all on their own and I think a few special things for them to start their own homes.
Our November craft fair was good. There were over 100 vendors and 4 floors of crafters. Now to get focused on Christmas baking. I am usually finished by now, but I haven’t started. This is going to be a wild few weeks, but it will be great. I will make cookies, breads, candy, cakes and pies. What do you do to celebrate Christmas? Our dinner will be a big Mexican/American dinner. Mexican dinner and desserts both Mexican and American.
I love all the different traditions that come with celebrations. What are your traditions that you enjoy the best
Still getting ready for some craft fairs this month. Finishing up and we are making Christmas spiders. They are cute and the story makes them even better. Here are the last 2 I made yesterday.
Now here is the story.
I know there are several different versions, but this is the one given to me.
As I start boxing things up to pack in the car for the sale I start thinking about what all I needed to take. Mind is going crazy and then The sale is over Sat night and on Monday we are leaving for Texas for a week of family therapy. I can’t wait.
Sorry so short but got someone at the door. Take care.
