Fun Fun Friday

Today starts the beginning of a 3 day celebration in Independence, MO, the hometown to Harry S. Truman, who was the 33rd President.  The celebration consists of a carnival, the whole downtown is reverted to horse drawn covered wagon rides, LOTS of food, crafts, games, music, and you will see people walking around dressed in the 1800’s fashions.  This celebrates the beginning of the wagon trains to Santa Fe, California, and Oregon.

Today we will be spending the afternoon walking around looking  at all the craft booths, smelling the kettle corn (pop corn cooked in big cast iron pots over an open fire with a hint of sugar)funnel cakes, (pancake batter fried with fruit or sugar and cinnamon on top.) BBQ, and so much more.

I will post some pictures when we get home.

Today I have a lap quilt top to sandwich and start quilting.

Sending all of you in Florida good and positive thoughts with the hurricane and rain and flooding.  My heart goes out to you.

  1. Oh I love festivals like this! I had to look it up, and am adding it to my ‘to do’ list for some day. When I was growing up I was sad that I missed the pioneering days. Your festival would be a fun way to recapture my dream. Kettle Corn=one of my big weaknesses! Enjoy your weekend.
