ICE is here.

Woke up this morning to 1/4th inch of ice outside.  As I look outside my window the neighbor’s driveway looks like a sheet of glass.  The trees look like they have been sprinkled with glitter and water.  We will get more of this wonderful stuff(NOT) tonight and into tomorrow.  So when weather says “You can’t go anyplace” what to do?  I finished my Labyrinth quilt top and will start the quilting next week.  IMG_20170114_124135603.jpgSorry about the Lopsidedness.  Have it all measured out and backing ready to press and cut.  Today I am going to start a quilt notebook.  I am excited to do this.  I will let you know how well it goes.

I am also sending a picture of the Blue Spruce in our back yard.  Couldn’t resist IMG_2487.JPGPoor thing.  Stay warm all.

Inspired today

As I read through your blogs this morning I have decided to do some of these.  Things I will start on today.

1.) Quilting Notebook….thank you Lori Kennedy, The Inbox Jaunt

2.) Applique more…thank you Texas Quilter, Chopin – A Passionate Quilter, and farmhousequiltsblog

3.) Finish up some WIPs and organize my room more.

4.) Plan some embroidery projects

That is my list. I don’t want to over extend myself.  Make my list so long I throw it away.  I love lists.  More than the list is the marking things off my list seeing what I did get done.  Who else makes lists?  I am ready to get to work.

Oh by the way if you don’t hear from me for a few days we are expecting an ice storm starting this afternoon thru Sunday with Sunday being the worse.  We could lose power for a few days.  Will keep everyone posted and we are stocked up on all supplies ready and waiting.  Great time to get the applique and embroidery going.

Till tomorrow.

Labyrinth is almost finished

Been working on Labyrinth lately and need to put 2 more borders on it.  As soon as I get this done I will post a pic.  Now this is were I struggle the most,  I look at it for a long time before I can decide on a design for the quilting.  I do like a challenge, so this will be one.  Here is a picture I took then realized the borders are on the sides not the top and one strip is upside down.  What I get for trying to sew really late at night.  Today will bring my digging out my handy dandy seam ripper.  I have a little battery operated razor that saves lots of time.  Just have to be real careful to not buzz the fabric.  img_20170112_081216884

We are gearing up rain, sleet, ice and snow.  This will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and then by Monday in the 40’s.  This weather is crazy, but any reason not to get out and spend the day sewing is great.  When it gets too cold outside I go to my “Happy Place ” I grew up in South Texas and so I am sharing a picture of my nephew.  I want to make a wall hanging of this.  Maybe this will be my next project.16003326_1839964442934386_484907783155214247_n This is on the Coast  of the Gulf of Mexico.  A family of Cattlemen.  Have a great day all.

Beautiful TuesdayS

Alicia is having a blast making her dolls.  She is making sock babies.  These are so cute.

She will be trying them out on Destiny.

Today we spent a lot of time running errands and so I haven’t sewed any, but that will change.  Thursday or Friday starts with sleet and will continue thru Sunday.  I won’t be getting out unless I absolutely have to.  Tomorrow is grocery store to stock up.  I want to get this quilt finished so I can start on another one.  Almost ready for the border.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring more photos or ideas.   I just wanted to share this site.  She has some great patterns for bags.  https://swoonpatterns.com/product-category/patterns/free/  Check it out.

Gotta love Monday

While being a stay at home mom I loved Monday.  It meant I had a full 8 hours without kids running around and me not getting much accomplished.  Then once I went to work Monday meant the start of new drama.  I worked with At Risk Kids in a Middle School (grades 6-8)  and oooooooohh the drama.  I did love it and do miss it.  Now retired it means a whole new week to find fun things to do.  This Monday brings me sitting looking my sewing room window at the squirrels playing chase around the trees, bird bath and items in the yard.  Still have snow covering the ground and ice on the sides of the roads.  Today will see the high 30’s.  Some of this will melt and then by Saturday or Sunday another winter storm.  Wonderful day to spend sewing.  Any day is a great way to spend the day.

I am posting a picture of Alicia’s baby so far.  She brought her to visit yesterday and I thought Destiny(2 yr old granddaughter, and Alicia’s niece) would never let go of baby Schulz.  All her babies have the same name.  So for now this is Baby Schulz.  She is starting to look good.img_20170108_140956598As she works on her she sees things she will change and redo.  Glad she is branching out for more ways to be creative.

Sad day

I was quilting away when the news came on telling about the shooting at the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida airport. 5 killed, 8 wounded and no telling the emotional toll on everyone.  Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

On a happy note, this is what I have gotten done on my Labyrinth quilt.  IMG_20170105_134055267.jpg I am looking forward to seeing it done.

Wintery day

What we woke up to this morning.  It is 9:22am and still snowing.  I have started cutting the fabric I purchased yesterday.  I am starting on a Labyrinth quilt by Debbie Maddy.

Great day for sewing, and watching the poor souls who are getting out having to drive in this slick day.  Be safe and stay warm.

Shopping trip

We went out shopping today for fabric for 2 quilts.  We are getting snow tonight and tomorrow so I decided to start 2 quilts.  Here is a quick picture of the result of our shopping trip.  IMG_20170104_140541493.jpgMy favorite shop is a small mom and pop store.  Mary, the wife, was helping me pick the shades of what I wanted.  Mr. Addidi, the hubby, was yelling from the back,”Give her that at a good price.”  Then out he comes and says,”Cut $2 off each yard, you want that, buy what is left on the bolt and I will cut it $3 a yard.  This was 108 inch backing fabric.  Needless to say, I spent a little more than planned, but with all the discounts I can make  the 2 quilts tops, backing, and quilting for less than what I planned to spend on 1 quilt.  I am such a happy camper right now.

Gotta get to playing, till tomorrow.

2017

My New Year wish for everyone is for 2017 to be great.  As I started a new year I had 3 UFOs.  I want to make more and finish each project before starting a new one. So today I will start putting the quilt sandwich together on one of the tops just sitting in a corner.

Alicia has decided to start 2017 making dolls.  She is making the soft sculptured ones right now.  Hopefully she will have some pictures.

We have enjoyed learning about each of you thru your blogs and am looking forward to lots more visits in 20017.

Friday

Friday brought a morning of sewing then went out looking for a new Band Saw for Gary.  Not finding what he is looking for, but the day was beautiful.  Doesn’t feel too much like winter, but I know this will change.  Winter won’t be winter without some snow, just not too much.

Instead of New Years resolutions, this year I am setting goals.  More quilts, and craft fair projects, and Live today as if it is my last.  The best I can.  With this Have a Wonderful successful 2017 and can’t wait to read more about our new friends..
