What Do You do on a Cold Day?

This morning today is 5 degrees with the wind chill of -18. Schools have closed so I thought I would gear this post towards what we do on COLD winter days. By 7am I will be in the kitchen putting bread dough on to rise. Nothing like hot bread and jelly on a cold day. Yum… We will have loaves of bread, peach kolaches, blueberry kolaches, and sausage kolaches. Once the dough is rising I will start in on Peanutbrittle. Each batch takes about 45 minutes from start to finish. While this is cooking I think I will start some corokies. By noon I will move to the sewing room to work on some Charity quilts.

Who can throw fabric in the trash????????? NOT me. At Quilt guild Monday night 2 bags of scraps were donated. No one wanted them so I brought them home after the lady in charge said she throws them away(she can’t store everyone else’s scraps). I sorted them into same width, colors that look good together, and have 10 gallon size bags of strips from 1/2″ wide to 4″ wide. These will go into Split Rail Fence and other scrap quilts.

Last night I finished our Walk On The Beach.

I hope everyone enjoys your day.

A Walk On The Beach Wallhanging.

While sitting in Dr offices(hubby has been sick, and now on the mend)I have been doing hand work on my wall hanging of our last Beach walk in Texas. In April our Guild is hosting our annual Quilt Show and so I am entering 4 pieces. So with a deadline I have to make sure they are all ready to go.

The past few days I’ve been doing some “adding” to the Walk on the beach. I found some little rocks with tiny holes drilled thru them and so I am adding rock on the beach and then some embellishments to the water and the sand on the beach.

I have some sand colored beads and then blue ones for the water. I am going to add sprinkling of them to show the sparkle of the sand. I’ve thought of putting a little sand on the beach instead of beads. What do you think? Any ideas?

These are the other 3 pieces to put in.

The FLAMINGO has a blue border and will go in.

The Royal Garden

And lastly Cactus in Bloom. I will be quilting it this week (hopefully)

I have been procrastinating on the quilting until I got an email from the guild telling us we have to have our paperwork in this week. Now crunch time.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Happy Thursday

This week I have been in a cleaning mood so strike while the iron’s hot. Needless to say not a lot on the sewing front, but I did get in some etching.

Today I have started cutting out triangles for another One Block Wonder. I know I said I wouldn’t but I saw this panel and thought “This would look amazing”. So here I am trying another one.

Now I have a question for all of you. I was given some fresh Swordfish over Thanksgiving(yes, it is in the freezer) and the only time I’ve eaten it it was grilled. With it winter here anyone have any suggestions on a good way to fix it. The Swordfish is in steaks and really nice sized. Anxious to try it. I usually bake or fry fish and don’t want to fry this.

Now to get going with cutting triangles. Everyone have a great day.

Super Bowl Sunday

I am not a football watcher. I feel like that like my hubby feels about all my quilting. So it is a day I stay shut up in my sewing room. I will fix hubby’s football snacks, chips, queso dip, veggies and he will be in front of the tv and very happy. Kansas City Chief’s has made it to the Super Bowl for the first time in 60 years. History in the making?

I am spending today getting craft items made. Today I will be making “CHIEF’S tailgating” items. Aprons, MAN aprons. Now MAN aprons will have many more pockets. Friends say a pockets for snacks (dry no dip), beer, utensils and things like that. So it will be fun to come up with this. Any suggestions?

This is item #1.

I checked in with the other members of our group to see what all was doing. Alicia and Mary are working all weekend. (6 and 7 days this week) Mary works for the Post Office and has today off so she is playing with Destiny. Alicia’s job is making changes and she is learning these and doing her job in payroll also. Both of them long hours. Ashley and Jim are getting ready for their Super Bowl Party. I am the only one playing today and I will think about them while I am enjoying myself. Maybe a little time for some candy making this afternoon.

Enough about us. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend what ever it is that you are doing. Stay safe and enjoy it.

Just call me crazy

Just last week I told you how I would not be making another One Block Wonder after the Flamingo quilt, I purchased 7 new panels to try again. I will NOT let fabric beat me. It did but when I saw these panels I could see it finished. I guess it didn’t hurt that I took the Flamingo to the fabric shop to show the owner what I did. After seeing it I got the panels at a nice discount. He knows how to work me, that is why I only go in 3 times a year.

Since this weekend the TV channels around here will have more of the Impeachment hearings and then the Super Bowl I am getting all my sewing projects ready to lock myself in the sewing room. Frozen Pizza in the deep freeze and so no cooking.

Today I have been making aprons to restock some I sold at the craft fairs last summer. They are Mommy, Me, and Dolly make 3 aprons.

I need to put pockets on the ones I am working on now, but this is a picture of what sold.

I have a list of things to make and it is getting longer rather than shorter. At least I am having a lot of fun with this.

Tomorrow Destiny and I will be painting. We will see how that goes. Have a fun evening. Till tomorrow.

Winter Wonderland

We woke up to a Winter Wonderland yesterday. Got 4 inches of fluffy wet snow. Perfect for snowballs and snowmen. We took Granddaughter out to help shovel the driveway and Grandpa got silly and started throwing snowballs. This is the first winter that Destiny has had a chance to play in the snow. She had RSV when she was 3 months old and seems spends most winters with a bad cold or an upper respiratory infection, or no snow. So this weekend was perfect temp in mid 30’s and the perfect snow.

While she drank her hot chocolate and was wrapped in her favorite blanket(not one of my quilts) I worked on my buffalo wall hanging.

The teachers on the committee decided to have it say “Buffaloes Forever Part Of The Herd In Memory of Kathleen Davis 2005-2019”. After Destiny goes home this afternoon I will be making those changes.

This is the first time I made my own paper piecing pattern and learned what NOT to do next time. It was fun tho and I think I will do more of them. I have used other’s patterns and enjoyed them because you can be precise which sometimes is hard to do. Here are the 3 quilts I made paper pieced.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend

Acorns Galore

This fall our Oak tree produced so many acorns we stopped raking them up. Now I understand why. This morning we are getting sleet, ice, and snow. There were 8 squirrels in the yard eating their breakfast. Hubby and I sat and just watched them. Tomorrow I will be taking pictures of them. I didn’t think about it.

It

As you walk along you sound like you are walking on crushed glass. Crunch, crunch, crunch.

We have 2 appointments today and after that I will be working on a wall hanging for one of the Middle Schools I worked for. They lost a wonderful teacher, quilter, and friend to cancer and I have been asked to take the school logo and make a wall hanging in Kathleen’s favorite color. Purple.

Here is the Logo.

This will be fun to work on. At first I thought to raw edge applique, but decided to piece it. I will be adding the words as raw edge. The finished project will be framed and no one will touching it.

I hope everyone is having a great day. Stay safe.

Flamingo is Done

Just finished the quilting on the One Block Wonder Flamingo quilt. I think it turned out better than I thought it would. I have grown to like it.

Border is next and then done.

I purchased some quilting rulers and used one for most of the quilting and I really enjoyed it. What I didn’t like as much was the invisible thread. I kept losing the end until I started taping it to the quilt top so I could find it to snip it.

Today I am enjoying the sunshine. It is in the low 30’s and feels like summertime after 2 days of ice and rain. I hope you are enjoying your weekend and doing something fun.

A little Crochet

finished_zpse1e70dd1

This wonderful head wrap is brought to you by Alicia. We hope you enjoy making it.

Stitches to know-

Hdc-half double crochet

FPDC-front post double crochet

BPDC-back post double crochet

LHdc-Long half double crochet

I used Red Hart WW yarn with an I hook

Ch 60 and join

Row 1) Turn chain slightly so the “bump” of the chain is showing ontop, ch1, Hdc in each bump of the chain.  Do not join.  (see photo below)

When you get to the top of the hdc, you will turn it toward you 180 degrees so the first hdc is upside-down and work hdc in each chain on the reverse side.  (This will put the natural twist in the headwrap).

Row 2) Ch 2, FPDC (YO, insert hook in on right side of previous hdc around to the left side of hdc -your hook should be “behind” the hdc stitch- YO, pull through 2 loops, YO pull through last 2 loops).  FPDC around each hdc until you reach the ch2, then join.

Row 3) Turn work, ch2, Lhdc (YO, insert hook in top of previous hdc, YO and pull through all 3 loops).  Lhdc in each stitch around and join beg ch 2.

Row 4-7) repeat rows 2 & 3.

I do give permission make and sell what you make as long as you give me credit for the pattern.  Thank you, Alicia.

CRAZY Monday

Ever have one of those days where you think,”What the world were you thinking?” Today is that day. This morning the fog was so bad you couldn’t see 2 houses down the street, and cars driving down the highway without lights. It was 6:30am ?????????

Walked into the Post Office with a package and a lady customer asks, “Are you mailing that box”??????????Really???????

Then driving into our subdivision a truck lost control, took out a fence, and missed a house by a few feet. We had about 1/2 inch of ice and then 4 inches of snow over the weekend and things are slick and slushy. To drive down the main road in the subdivision it is down hill, and curves. On a good summer day I’ve seen cars driving too fast lose control. I am guessing the driver was not going the 25 mph. We’ve had issues with cars speeding thru. Really??????????? Drive weather conditions be careful.

Now sitting here looking out the window an SUV tried to stop in front of our house and ended up stopping facing sideways next door. I am going to stay home

My goal for this week is to finish the flamingo quilt. I got the top completed last night and so the quilting is next. I have been asked to make a wall hanging for the school I worked at in memory of one of the teacher who lost her battle to cancer. I am in the drawing stage of this and hope to have something final to start on by the weekend.

This is a follow up on my last post. I made a bag for my quilting rulers. I like making something out of my first attempts and then later remake the item to see if and where I’ve improved or have made some bad choices.

Thank you for visiting and Be Careful out there. It IS CRAZY MONDAY.
