Today I am introducing Mary Schulz. She is my second born. Mary has 3 beautiful girls. Katelin is our resident resign expert. Katelin now lives about 3 hours from us and has been accepted as a Correctional Officer at the Prision. Then there is Alexis who along with her Aunt Alicia has a green thumb. I don’t think there is a plant that she can’t grow. Alexis is still at home and working full time and rescues animals. She and Katelin love drawing. Then we have Destiny. Well what to say about her…..she is good at enjoying life.

Katelin is on the left and Alexis is on the right, Their half brother is in the middle

Mary and Destiny

Mary is a single mom of 3 and keeps us supplied with soaps, scrubs, and supplied with healthy alternative to some drugs. She knows her Essential Oils and always has some mixtures for something. She has started making jewelry that you can infuse with different oils. I guess this is why she can handle 10-12hour days 6 days a week at the Post Office. When her dad had his lung surgery she brought over oils to put in a diffuser to keep him from getting sick while healing.

Mary crochets, knits, and likes making T shirts with funny sayings on them.

Keep going Mary.

This week I will be introducing you to Our One Creative Family

You hear me talk about Destiny quite a bit, so I am taking today to introduce you to all our members. I am starting with Alicia Hill, She is our resident crocheter, knitter, upcycler, and all around crafter. Alicia is a single mom of 2 girls. Cc has been in College to learn American Sign Language. She is now thinking of changing that to graphic design. Cc is an amazing artist. Then we have Emily who is a CNA who is working at a local hospital and has been an active BMX (Bike racing). Work has taken a front seat to that as of now.

Alicia is always looking at how she can take junk or old furniture and turn it into something awesome. Here are a few of her “projects”

Cc on the left Alicia center, and Emily on right

An old dresser that she took apart.

New Entertainment Center
Necklace
Crochet or knitting row markers…

Painted shoes

Pin Cushion from scrap fabric and a picture frame.

Alicia is always thinking of something to make. Go girl.

New Project

I got this kit a few months ago from AQS and had it on hold for a while. A few days ago I decided to take it out and start on it. Now it is ready to be sandwiched and quilted.

The name of it is “I’ll Never Dessert You “. I have enough of scrap fabric to make a smaller version but cactus in pots. I do think I could live in the South West area. I will be happy visiting.

I am behind on the quilt a long and so instead of spending time catching up I started a new project. Will quilt it today and start catching up on the quilt a long.

What are your plans for this afternoon and tomorrow?   After setting the humming bird feeders out I will start quilting my cactus. Enjoy your weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day to all

Yesterday we went to the Air Port to pick our Son and Daughter In Law. It is being revamped. It was designed to be easy to get to your flight and the baggage areas, but there is little space where you can watch the planes come in. Now with this virus there were very little people out and about and only a Burger King open. We couldn’t get to a window and so Destiny had to stand on a chair to see planes land. Her eyes were so wide as she saw how big the planes were. Our favorite word this week is “Amazing”. Everything is amazing. So it was an “Amazing” morning at the airport.

We had to buy her “Blitz the Unicorn” at the News Stand.

Today I am smoking ribs for dinner and spending a quiet day planning out making a better storage place in the closet. Hubby said he would make it if I drew it out. Can’t pass that up.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

New Day, New Ways

This last week has been full of ups and downs as we are used to being on the go more. I have some very mixed feelings about everything opening up. But like a small child taking baby steps we are taking those wobbly baby steps finding out what the “new Norm” will be. In March we were planning on going on a vacation to Washington DC, but 2 days before we were to leave DC closed down. Was that only a few months ago? Seems like so much more. In these few short months I have returned from retirement to help our Preschool Granddaughter with school work, more of a Baby sitter Grandma, mask maker, and Bigger Worrier. Not the changes most of you have had to make. I can not imagine having to juggle working from home, and teach, take care of families, and be the all to the family. For those of you who are juggling all these things I am in awe of you. You are doing an amazing job, not many can do.

As we have been stuck at home(yes that is how I feel, I want to go to a fabric store and feel the fabric, smell the smells in the store. Sorry I regress), I have been trying to do a Quilt A Long with a Facebook group starting in Italy. This group of ladies are almost finished and I am only about 1/4th the way finished, so I will be working on this for the next few days and see if I can get caught up. This is what I have so far.

These may have been shared before, and if it has it has. I have found that I have LOTS of WIPs that I will start working on one at a time till they are all finished. I will let you know how it goes.

Stay safe taking your Wobbly Baby Steps.

A little of this and that

As of today we have made 830ish masks and have let things go. Yesterday was a cleaning day and I did get a little quilting done. Before I started mass mask making I joined a Facebook Quilt a long which started in Italy. It has been so much fun but I got way behind. Yesterday I got 2 blocks finished and am a little ashamed to say that I am on block 7 and many more to go.

Today my goal is to work on Destiny’s dress, complete another block and get some cookies baked. What are your big plans today? No cleaning for me. I did that yesterday, even cleaned the garage.

This evening I may have to get out and mow the yard. watching it blow in the wind it reminds me of the opening scene of “Little House on the Prairie” Not really that high but high enough to watch it sway in the wind.

Well enough putting work off. Have a great day. Stay safe.

Looks like a break in masks

As I was dreaming of making masks at night and sewing them during the day, all else went by the wayside. Now it seems that as though there is a slow down to this and granddaughter who is a CNA at a hospital has asked for headbands with buttons on them. The nurses here are dealing with “Ear Fatigue”. Nurses are wearing 2 masks daily and when dealing with patients 3, the top one gets thrown away. So I am making some headbands with buttons on them. This way the straps of the masks attach to the buttons. Saves some of the stress on the ears.

A nice change of pace. Also I got a call from a friend who I made a nursery set for her about 20 yrs ago. Her daughter’s baby blanket has been well loved.

No photo description available.

Needed a little fixing. Her step mom and repaired once before. It was such a wonderful thing to work on in the middle of such a stressful time.

I had to cut off about 2 1/2 inches all around but it is back together.

This last week has been beautiful even with the rain. The grass is lush and green, birds are enjoying this weather also. As I am writing I am looking out my sewing room window getting ready to start sewing and the birds are singing, and the squirrels are playing chase. It will be fun sewing with this going on outside my window.

Have a great day and stay safe.

Busy times, but for sad reasons

As I write this I realize just how Blessed we are. Our area in Missouri isn’t seeing a lot of the virus, but hear about it constantly. It scares and worries me. We have a daughter in law and Granddaughter who work in hospitals and pray for their safety. I felt very helpless and that is a feeling I don’t like so when my Quilt Guild sent out emails that some of the hospitals were asking for masks I decided this was something useful to do. Don’t get me wrong, quilting is very useful, but I needed a little more.

As I started on the journey of making masks, I was reading how some people were looking for masks and couldn’t afford to pay $20-30 for them. My dad would raise from his grave and kick me square in the butt if I were to sell any. So I started giving them to people in my neighborhood. This EXPLODED…. One lady came by 3 times bringing fabric, others elastic, or took to people who couldn’t get out. This neighborhood and outside it started working together. I was so inspired by these lovely people that with the help of Hubby supervising, my son cutting wire for nose pieces, 2 Granddaughters and daughter in law cutting fabric, 1 daughter sewing, and another taking to mail. Oh and can’t forget, each set of masks leaving the house get 1 “Destiny Original” drawing by a 5 yr old, we have as of today made 650 + masks. With the exclusion of all else we’ve been consumed with mask making. These are what is left to be picked up.

The ones in bags are groups of 6 or more, on the sofa are groups of 1-5 and in the chair are for people on the way. Now the next few photos are of my sewing room right now. Tomorrow I am taking a day of cleaning then sewing.

This last photo are scrap pieces too small to make into masks. I need to sort according to size for a quilt later.

Maybe in the next few days I will post a few photos of a clean sewing room.

For all you “Essential Workers” stay safe, and for EVERYONE out there my prayers are with you and please take care of each other and yourselves.

Crazy Times

I never thought that we would have to wear masks out in public, no handshakes or hugs, and standing 6 ft from another. Meetings on line, shopping on line( I am a toucher, I need to feel fabric before I buy it). It is hard for me to be positive and not allow myself to go to the dark places and “What if ____happens?” So after cleaning the sewing room I decided to start making masks. We have been, averaging about 40 masks a day. With this going on I haven’t been doing much more than sitting in the sewing room sewing, hubby is answering the door, cutting elastic, and fabric. An assembly line at its best. We even got silly making Sugar Skull ones and I was surprised at how fast those went.

One gentleman wanted one big enough to put his beard in. His beard rested on his chest. After thinking a while I made one with a pocket on the inside bottom of the mask. He was able to put the beard into it and then tied the mask on. Looked ok. Later tonight I will be writing the pattern up so I don’t forget how it was done, just in case.

On a much happier note, we have had quiet a bit of fun with the “Bear Hunt”. We have 6 Bears out on our front swing , and they change where they go on a day to day basis. The younger kids and parents stop as they walk by to see what the bears are doing.

As you can tell not a lot of chances to visit so I am taking advantage of it. Just everyone be safe and take care of yourself and each other.

So Far So Good

We are staying in and trying to be good. It is amazing how we take the small things in life for granted. Today Mary(daughter) and I were making masks and “Miss Thing” 5 yr old Destiny’s nick name now, was out in the back yard playing. She comes running in and telling us that our Blue Spruce tree in the was haunted. She was so serious. When we asked what made her think that she replied that when she was under it getting pine cones it blew “raspberries” at her. Since we were trying to stay serious also we told her to tell Grandpa. She did and so like a good grandpa he went out with her to chase any ghosts away and to tell the tree not to blow raspberries at her. I really wanted to get this on a video, but I was laughing too hard. See those little things can really change a person’s outlook.

I guess instead of a Blue Spruce, it will be now called the Raspberry tree.

This was taken last winter.
