Growing up my Grandmother lived with us off and on and got me started sewing at an early age. When she was at her own home she would have me move the treadle on her sewing machine. I was really young. Then about 13 or 14 she taught me to hand sew. We started with embroidery and crochet. By time I was 16 I had pillow cases, dresser scarves, and the started working afghans. She was of the opinion that every girl needed to know how to cook, sew, look after a house, and above all a Lady at all cost. When she got the sickest I stayed days with her in the hospital and we crocheted a Granny Square Afghan(at night I would rip out what we did during the day and redo it as her eyes weren’t good anymore). When she passed in 1972 I was 18 and had a Trousseau that was growing. I still have a pair of pillowcases I learned on and the Afghan.
Speed ahead 49 yrs and I have had picked up the needle and pearl cotton and use different designs on blocks and make a quilt out of it. I also have an applique quilt about 1/2 done and now am thinking of adding some embroidery to it. I will post some photos of the process as I go. Hopefully it won’t take a year.
This is from a design I got from Vicky Beasley of The Scrappy Farmer. I am just a little rusty. Glad this is only a practice piece.

We’ve been working on getting the yard summer ready (not there yet), but working on it. A friend of my daughter’s upcycles dishes and things. I got this wonderful yard light from her and is wanting her to make some more. Then I found some whimsical lights just for fun. The light Jeanette made will go under the bedroom windows once I get that area ready.

Stay safe and have a wonderful day
